Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

With Margiela away from the wheel, his design house is tackling some new projects, like a recent redecoration of a hotel room at a chichi French spa, Les Sources de Caudalie Spa in Bordeaux. Maison Martin Margiela outfitted the suite, which is perched on stilts and called "Bird Island," with trappings from the sold-out and mostly genius MMM Ligne 13 interior decor line. From the outside, Bird Island looks like a humble fishing cabin, but the inside is papered with a trompe l'oeil reproduction of the interior of Maison Martin Margiela's former headquarters in Paris. We can't even begin to explain the enormous lips, unless it's meant to goad visitors into getting some collagen while they're there. The Margiela-ified suite was only just unveiled this morning, but it's already been booked through the holidays.
