Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Pop quiz: Does the phrase "I love my comfy sweater" simultaneously fill you with joy and make you want to put a bullet in your brain? Than you're probably familiar with the Gap's latest cheerleader ad, which stars a flock of high-energy little girls who really like their knitwear. Still, even if you've watched the ad a hundred times, you haven't truly seen it until you've seen it performed by four not-hugely-athletic twentysomething dudes. The "How cute are these boots?" moment really takes on a different vibe when one of the cheerleaders has a giant beard.
