In The Window: This Is How Chanel Does Christmas

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Is there a little something Chanel on your Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Etc list? Doesn't matter if there is really, but what is interesting is how Chanel is tiptoeing around the idea of holiday windows. Without coming right and saying it with a Christmas tree or other religion-related props in the window, they've staged a Christmas-y scene. Do you see it?

Here's how it appears to us: the cages above the heads of two mannequins are the Christmas trees, complete with paper Chanel ornaments. Then you think?what colors are typical of the holidays? Red we see in the wigs of the mannequins, and gold we have in the paper trees and ornaments and the glittery fabric backdrop. Throw in a couple other mannequins posing with items perfect for giving as gifts, and you have Chanel's holiday windows (or one of them at least). Now if only we'd get $5K as a gift so that we could gift ourselves something from inside.
