Lucky Shops kicked off its sixth annual shopping extravaganza last night with a packed VIP opening. Guests outside were clamoring to be let in. (Overheard: "I'm the President of [insert name of French prestige fashion label], am I supposed to wait in line?") Celebs like Jennifer Morrison (House) and her boyfriend Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break), supermodel Carol Alt and teenage witch Melissa Joan Hart walked right in, though. Even celebs like to partake in discounts of up to 75% off over 60 hot designer labels.
Near mob scenes were spotted in the row of stands featuring Pour le Victoire ($130 to $375), Hayden-Harnett, Botkier (bags $50 to $485) and Devi Kroell (the "Knack" patent crock pattern bag is discounted to $190 from $1190, but the rest of the skins are still over the $1000 mark). For apparel, the popular brands are similar to last year—Clu ($20 to $50), Rachel Comey ($100 to $280), Vena Cava (shoes for $150, tops starting at $100 and dresses at $150), Thread Social (even Vena Cava designer Lisa Mayock strolled over to check out the goods), Foley & Corinna (dresses average $175 and bags start at $125) and See by Chloé (clothing ranging from $50 to $150). The HSN shop features designer exclusives, including a few of the currently sold out Timeless by Naeem Kahn sequin items ranging from $150 to $199.
It was nice to see the Shop for Success shop, benefiting Dress for Success, so popular, too. The boutique has items donated from designers like DVF and Dolce & Gabbana, plus gently-worn duds from bold names like Real Housewife Jill Zarin, who is apparently a big fan of BCBG. Prices range from $25 to $150.
The Jeanious Bar also got lots of love for denim labels like J Brand, Citizens for Humanity and DL1961 Premium Denim with prices averaging at $100 a pair. This is the only boutique with a dressing room and the "genius" (sorry, had to) Hemming Station, where shoppers can drop off their jeans to be hemmed in 45 minutes. Garnier Fructis was offering free dry styling and there was a long line for makeovers at the Maybelline New York makeover station.
Staffers are distributing floor maps to help guests navigate the sale, but provided you've allotted yourself at least an hour minimum, it's fun and worth it to walk the aisles. Each boutique has its own check out and payment is with credit only. With the exception of the Denim Dressing Room, there are no dressing areas, so be prepared. To purchase tickets, visit the Lucky Shops site. Tonight's event is $35 and Saturday tickets are $20. The site promises that stock will be replenished throughout and there will be further discounts on Saturday.
