Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
THE INTERNET—Guest of a Guest tries out new online service Rent the Runway, which does for designer dresses what Netflix did for DVDs. To test the site's live chat feature, the writer invents an occasion—dinner with a fictional boyfriend at the Minetta Tavern—and asks for advice about what to wear. Eventually, the stylist (who may or may not be a robot) comes up with a cut-out Helmut Lang dress rentable for $50. "Very affordable," GofaG concludes, "and I know fake-boyfriend will definitely propose once he sees it." Honey, are you sure you want to fake-marry your fake-boyfriend if he only fake-loves you because you look hot in a rented dress? You can do fake-better! [Guest of a Guest]
UPPER EAST SIDE—Rebecca Minkoff will be at Henri Bendel tomorrow from 5—7pm to support her trunk show at the location. Go meet the designer, mingle over cocktails, and enjoy a free gift with your purchase over $250 or more. [Refinery29]
