Store Sidekicks: Shibas at Miss Lonelyhearts

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

This is Store Sidekicks, an occasional feature where we profile the fuzzy wuzzy creatures that inhabit shops across the city. If you'd like to nominate your favorite store animal, drop us a line at tips@racked.com.

Thanks to owner Jenny Yuen's two Shiba Inus, Miss Lonelyhearts, a quaint new boutique on the Lower East Side, is anything but lonely. Pablo (three years old) and George (one) add extra charm to this already-charming handbag, clothing, and jewelry shop. They hang out with spouses and significant others while their ladyfriends try things on, and they've attracted their own slew of girlfriends. While we were there, a pup named Amy popped in, and we could tell by the rapid wagging of her tail that she was very excited to see them. Another famed visitor is a little black Chihuahua named Chanel who is often dressed to match her owner. The dogs don't come in every day, but if you stop by the storefront at 250 Broome Street and don't see them, check the dressing rooms—we hear they sometimes like to hang out in there, waiting to befriend who ever comes in.
