It's impossible to get away from sparkles right now, and that suits Swarovski just fine. In fact, they've brought together a group of menswear designers to put together a collection of crystal and gemstone-embellished clothes for men. The line includes a leather jacket, a denim shirt, moccasins, and an array of formal shirts and jackets. The collection is designed to prove that crystal-embellished menswear and accessories "can work in a commercial context and not just as statement pieces on a runway," Swarovski's senior VP of marketing, Markus D. Lampe, told WWD.
Kitsune, John Lawrence Sullivan and 3.1 Phillip Lim were among the designers participating in the collection. For the show, editor and stylist Tomoki Sukezane had each designer make up a version of the classic dress shirt and dinner jacket, plus a couple other pieces done at the designer's discretion. The money from each sale will go to the designer, Lampe said. Swarovski makes its profits by selling the component materials used to make the garments.
