Maison Martin Margiela is the last name we expected to see in a celebrity collab, but its union with R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe turns out to be a match made in some kind of arty, conceptual heaven. The collaboration comes down to one inspired piece of jewelry: a simple microcasette made of sterling silver with an unravelled tape for a chain.
We're completely loving this thing for its versatility. It's a necklace, a bracelet, an eye patch, a headband, a belt, shoe decor, or even a ring or whatever else you can think to do with it. (We're probably not going to run around with it in our teeth like the first guy in the fourth row, though.)
We love the example where it's tucked in the pocket of a sheer shirt, too. We would wear it everywhere if for no other reason than that we could wear it everywhere. We have no idea of the price, and there will be only 199 of these available at Maison Martin Margiela boutiques and select retailers, so we assume we'll never actually get our hands on one. (We may be reduced to spray painting a pack of 6 from the RadioShack.) If you got your hands on one, what would you do with it? Bonus points for creativity.
