Plastic shoe purveyor Melissa Shoes loves its designer collabs, including the collections it's been putting out with Vivienne Westwood since 2008. We've mentioned this brand before, and there's always some natural skepticism about the comfort and potential chicness of rubber shoes, but there's one place where you have to admit that rubber shoes make perfect sense: rain boots, which is where Dame Viv's genius took her for this addition to the Spring/Summer 2010 collection.
Living in New York means dealing with an ungodly amount of rain and slush during the winter months, and we hate that our only options are to be wacky/kitschy/ironic in bright-colored adult-sized kids' boots with duckies or bunnies on them, or to submit to the ubiquitous Hunters. These lilac booties fall somewhere in the middle, with a cute shape, almond toe and a quirky color that doesn't quite cross over into ducky territory. We also love the little black bow, because you we might as well have a little fun with them. Also, they look like they'd be less embarrassing on those days when you expect it to rain but it doesn't, and you wind up trekking around the town in your dry Hunters like you're trying to make some kind of tragic fashion statement.
