Above the Fray: Save Fashion Spot Check

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We just popped into the Save Fashion sale to see how the weekend treated the second such event—this time at Nolita's discount indie design clearinghouse INVEN.TORY—and whether or not there were any major changes since Friday. And, what can we say, the racks are still full (lots and lots of Tretorn, Filippa K, Thuy, Rogan, Urban Outfitters collaborations; less Vena Cava, Steven Alan, Built by Wendy) and pricing seems to have remained static.

Womenswear is plentiful, and the best rack in the space is probably the one devoted to overstock from Bird—J Brand, Vena Cava, and the silk, winking eyelash dress by Thakoon that is almost $1000 off at $549. Tons of Filippa K is available including sleeveless silk day dresses, half off at $175; and the star-printed jersey numbers we spied at Oak's Labor Day Weekend sale. Steven Alan blouses in authentic Liberty fabric were $58; and a bevy of Urban Outfitters collaborations (many fashioned from fake Liberty fabrics) were available in a spectrum of sizes and topped out at about $60. Stacks of ladies' shoes are also available—we liked the Tretorn rain boots, a bargain at $28.

Guys' stuff is out back—the Steven Alan racks were getting thin but glen plaid wool blazers at $109 were a bargain and shirting starts around $60 (you'll get the same deal next week at the Steven Alan sample sale). The Tretorn racks are still full—a yellow canvas hunting jacket is $112, from $275; and sneakers are under $50. Gilded Age jeans and khakis ranged from $50 to $80. We loved the tweaked classics on the April 77 rack—bandanna-print wovens and chambray button downs with a sort of Peter Pan/shawl collar were $65; and a heavy camo jean jacket was $95. As for Band of Outsiders, we only saw ties—$52.

It's worth noting that Dunderdon clothing is an additional 30% off sale prices; and various Cheap Monday pieces (INVENT.ORY stock) are 25% off. Also, the super secret designers are Rick Owens and Imitation of Christ—not that the included pieces were really worth noting. But, hey, if you want a little Rick but can't handle a three (or four) digit price tag— now's your chance.
