In the Window: Barneys is Having a Witty Holiday

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Some of our favorite stores may still have their holiday windows wrapped up tight (we're looking at you, Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdales), but Barneys beat the other guys out of the gate and got their Saturday Night Live-themed holiday windows installed by this morning. The displays celebrate the holidays and the 35th anniversary of SNL by recreating some of its iconic and currently popular characters under this year's tagline, "Have a Witty Holiday."

Now papier-mâché is not the most expressive of media, so it would be a bit hard to tell who some of these guys are if Barneys hadn't thoughtfully written everyone's names on them with glitter. As promised, there is Tina Fey as Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler hugging the Weekend Update globe. There is also Tracy Morgan, Kristen Wiig as Gilly, and Wayne and Garth. Our favorites are the Coneheads, who get their own living room display all to themselves with copious cone-related puns written around them, like a portraits of celebrities including "The Cone Ranger" and "Cone-a Lisa."
