Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
A reader rightly calls us out for neglecting to mention the Maison Martin Margiela, Viktor & Rolf, and Dsquared2 sample sale in the Diesel building at 220 W. 19th Street. First things first: They're offering 40% to 50% off merchandise, with the price delineated by stickers (red = 40%, orange = 50%). Not everything is properly stickered, but the staff is extremely patient and helpful—always a perk. Our tipster went for the Dsquared but left with a pair of Maison Martin Margiela boots marked $176 down from $895. He reports a decent selection for men—and a celebrity sighting: "Much to my surprise I saw Soon-Yi Previn there amongst the small group of predominately Asian fashionistas (yours truly included)!" This is the second time a tipster has spotted Mrs. Woody Allen at a sample sale—she also turned up at Diptyque last year.
