In the past year, Diesel has thrown parties with N.E.R.D., Hot Chip, M.I.A., the Roots, and Passion Pit, so we had big hopes for Tuesday night's "Flash For Fun" party celebrating the brand's new fluorescent denim. Once the secret location was revealed on Twitter, the party was on. We headed straight to Love on 8th and Macdougal in SoHo once the clock struck eleven o'clock, and were completely not surprised to see the line all the way around the block. Leather-clad fashionistas huddled under umbrellas (to the protest of the angry bouncers who were trying to check id's), and cabs crowded around the corner of the party.
Downstairs, men in bunny rabbit costumes handed out neon sunglasses and mouthpieces...which we politely protested in favor of drinks at the open bar. Makeup artists were on board, applying neon eyelashes, eyebrows, and face paint. Apparently, the celebrity guest was Spank Rock, who made their entrance out of some fantastically placed balloons. The guests seemed unfazed, though. This crowd was raving even without the star power.—Phill Picardo
