First—because we know this is what everyone gets whipped up into a froth about—there is denim at the A.P.C. overstock sale that began this morning at their sale shop in Williamsburg. There isn't a ton of it, but you'll find a variety of sizes for both men and women in traditional raw denim, as well as over-dyed washed indigo, heathery oatmeal, what have you. It's currently 65% off retail; retail starts at about $160.
If you're not on the hunt for French denim, however, it might not be worth the trek and the mob scene. Most of this didn't sell at retail for a reason: lots of difficult to pull off rust- and orange-colored oddities; giant bulky sweaters; mangled bins of limp, washed-out knits; outwear that tries much too hard; cheap-looking Rachel Zoe sunglasses in strange shades of blue and brown; really terrible zipper boots.
We liked a heavy knit gray double-breasted sweater for women, as well as a wide selection of interesting stacked heels and spectators. For men there were some cool tuxedo jackets with velvet trim and wearable slim corduroys that piqued our interest. Otherwise, the scarves, belts, and ties were worth a pick through—especially if you manage to find an adorable blue plaid D-ring belt. Bright spots: a number of specially stickered items are only $10, $20, and $30. Everything else is 65% off prices as marked. And, stock will continually be replenished; the sale runs through Sunday.
