Last night, a tipster sent us this missive from outside the Elie Tahari sale: "It's 6:40 and the line is 75 people deep to get in." Today, Sample Sally confirms the madness with an even more impressive number—according to a security guard at the sale, at least 1000 people had visited on opening day.

They probably found it worth their while. Sally's reporting deals like a $600 cocktail dress and $500 pumps both reduced to $99. Dresses in general begin at $99, as do blazers; bottoms are $59; tops are $49 to $59; shoes start at $59; and handbags start at $79. We're finally hitting the time of year when it's possible to find fall merchandise at sales, so much of the merchandise could be worn tomorrow (well, not literally tomorrow, since it's going to be unseasonably warm, but definitely by Friday.) Two caveats, if you're planning to go: There's much more on offer for women than for men, and the majority of the clothing comes in sample sizes.
