Uber-hip Archetype Showroom is hosting a sample sale offering 50% off fall and winter items from fashion-forward lines like April 77, Kaylee Tankus, Lewis, YMC, and S2VS. Most of the clothes are seasonally appropriate, which was a relief after all the summer sales—especially since winter has descended upon us.
The sale is mostly organized by designer, but there are some randomly placed items in the racks. Prices for womenswear range from $20 to $80 for tops, $65 to $130 for dresses, $65 (lightweight) to $245 (leather and shearling) for outerwear. As for menswear, expect to pay between $25 and $65 for tops, $70 to $110 for outerwear and at least $75 for jeans. (See full price list in the photos). Some lines like April 77 and S2VS are unisex, so it's always good to double check and ask for the pricing; the staffers (who were rocking April 77's Dictator jeans, btw) are more than happy to help. Also, sizes are mostly sample sizes or small and mediums, so be forewarned.
We started at the Kaylee Tankus racks, where we found modern separates, dresses, and a plethora of innovative yet wearable outerwear discounted to $125, plus a few leather and shearling pieces marked to $245 (her outerwear can run into $600's retail). We loved the long, drapey yet architectural jackets. The hip clientele was also drawn to the three racks of indie rocker French denim label April 77 (both the "Records" and higher-end "Collection" lines). Records jeans (unisex) that usually retail for $150 are marked to $75 and there multiples of the popular and ridiculously skinny 'Joey" cut. A few Spring 2010 samples that were cut from the final line also made it into the sale. We also loved the Lewis vintage-inspired short-sleeved minidresses for $130.
As for accessories, there were a few Chia bags available, ranging from $185 for distressed leather slouchy shoulder bags to $215 for a more structured handbag with shoulder strap.
The sale is cash only and has a communal dressing room in an office, so come carrying a full wallet and wearing leggings. Most items are samples and the only ones, so definitely go early for a wider selection.
