Markdowns: If You Must Buy a Romper, Now's the Time

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

With the arrival of fall, this summer's rompers are strewn across sales racks like so many fallen leaves—trendy, impossible-to-pee-in leaves. On the website of Brooklyn boutique Bird alone, we found Mociun's Sahara jumpsuit reduced to $79 from $305; Steven Alan's slub linen romper marked down to $59 from $245; and, maybe saddest of all, A.P.C.'s madras check jumpsuit discounted to $39 from $160.

This is particularly striking because Bird doesn't have much on sale right now, having cleared out a lot of their back inventory with a warehouse sale at the end of August. Oddly, while prices on all three rompers were slashed 75%, we couldn't find a single one in the 50% off section. We did turn up a couple onesies, though.
