What a cruel joke on the neighborhood: Beloved, ailing grocery Jefferson Market, which closed for "restructuring" in October, might reopen after all—as a Gristedes. The rumor comes to us from Vanishing NY, who heard it from a commenter. According to this anonymous source, the shop will keep its name, but will be "a different store, just a Gristedes with a different name." Puzzling. Let's hope this is just errant gossip.
