Flatbush Flatlining?

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Of the 100 stores on Flatbush Avenue between Atlantic Ave and Prospect Heights, some 20 are currently vacant, and landlords aren't particularly willing to cut the remaining tenants a break. We've seen owners in other parts of the city negotiating better rents with recession-struck retailers, but on Flatbush they seem to be holding out for the big money. Wonder how long that'll last.
