Freebies: The Geeks of Tekserve Record Their Own CD

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Apple specialists of Tekserve, the computer shop on 23rd between Sixth and Seventh, turn out to have many talents. Every few years, the company puts out a CD of music recorded and performed entirely by Tekserve employees, which they give out free to customers. We were very excited to get our hands on a copy of "Teknotes III: Nudibranchia," which is named after some sort of sea slug. Featured tracks include political rap, southern rock, an arty German thing with a lot of deadpan muttering, and a song called "Flesh Eating Virus Eaters, Part I."
