Liveblogging the Shows: Ports 1961

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

In an effort to make reading Racked as much like being in the tents as humanly possible, we'll be liveblogging the shows all week, from the suspense of waiting in line (will the seats be any good?) to the drama of the runway (will anyone stumble?) to the post-show euphoria. This time around: looks from luxury brand Ports 1961.

6:43pm: Okay, I'm in line to get check in. Except that it's less of a line and more of a clump. I'm anticipating lots of shoving. Just stepped on a woman's foot next to me. Apologized profusely—she does not seem to be in a forgiving mood.

6:52pm: OMG—unforgiving lady isn't on the list. She just said, "We paid a lot of money to be here!" Is she an...AmExer?

7pm: Okay, I'm in. Patrick McDonald is up front. Standing room looks packed, but most seats are still empty.

7:22pm: Seats filling up. Brandy, Dr. Ruth and Ryan Adams supposedly backstage.

7:25pm: This feels a bit chaotic, like they can't manage the crowd.

7:29pm: Starting. There's a band with instruments.

7:31pm: Cowboy Junkies are playing. Where's Ryan Adams?

7:32pm: And here come the models.

7:34: Looks: so far, much yellow. One model has a crazy foam-looking antler headdress.

7:35pm: Headbands, pocahontas, alt-country music - very Americana. Lots of big metal necklaces. Almost breastplates. Loving the live music.

7:39pm: Fringe! More insane headdresses. Like a little kid playing Indian, but with sophisticated clothing.

7:40pm: They're playing their one hit, a cover of "Sweet Jane." Couple of people cheer.

7:42pm: Ooh, a kimono. And more fringe. Bunch of red, structured, ladylike dresses. And now, they're coming out in Superman blue. One dress is blue with red fringe—totally Superman.

7:45pm: Lots of metal. Just saw a dress made of bronze leaves and a coat with metal pieces attached to the collar.

7:48pm: And, it's over.
