Brooks Brothers "Adopts" Central Park Benches

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Joining a host of other retail anniversaries this year is Brooks Brothers, who are celebrating something a little offbeat but very endearing: their 140th year of clothing Central Park's "Gatekeepers," who are basically like urban park rangers.

To celebrate, BB is doing their part for the park by boasting the "Adopt-a-Bench" program, where for $7,500 ($25,000 for a handmade rustic bench), you too can have your name on a little seatback plaque. Brooks have already got quite a few of the benches to themselves, including two they seem to have borrowed for their window display at 666 Fifth Avenue, but with their lease up here in February, they may be sleeping on them soon.
