Liveblogging the Shows: 3.1 Phillip Lim

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

In an effort to make reading Racked as much like being in the tents as humanly possible, we'll be liveblogging the shows all week, from the suspense of waiting in line (will the seats be any good?) to the drama of the runway (will anyone stumble?) to the post-show euphoria. This time around: Fast-rising talent 3.1 Phillip Lim.

2:00pm: I'm first in line for standing room.

2:06pm: They just started letting people in. Spotted a few ladies in Lim dresses. Lynn Yaeger from the Village Voice just entered.

2:12pm: Sarah Lerfel of Colette is here wearing those flats they're selling in the Colette x Gap store. Simon Doonan's here too, with an awesome Goyard messanger bag, and Ann Slowey from Elle just walked in.

2:16pm: Kate Lanphear from Elle is here.

2:28pm: We have a Rachel Zoe spotting! She's wearing a full black skirt and floral top.

2:34pm: The runway is made out of blocks of wood in these crazy geometric shapes. Anna Wintour is directly across from me. She just yawned. It's going to take forever to start—the place is really packed. Sarah from Colette is in the second row, not even front row. Rachel Zoe is talking to someone. She looks good. Leigh Lezark from Misshapes is here, posing for photos.

2:43pm: Finally an Emmy Rossum sighting. Front row, cream silk dress. No one is talking to her.

2:45pm: It's starting. Low-crotched pants, sleek skirts, Asian influence (or maybe it's just the vaguely Cambodian-looking runway arches?) High-heeled booties with so many appliques on them, they barely look like shoes.

2:46pm: Hamish Bowles is sitting next to Anna. More big necklaces on the models—a definite spring trend. Hot pink booties, but the clothes are mostly subdued, neutral colors. All the models have donut-style buns on the sides of their heads.

2:51pm: There's a man in a necklace! Lots of geometric prints, including some cute dotted bags. Big bow-tied belts, scarves on the men, pantsuits on the women. The menswear is very effeminate.

2:53pm: Long dresses with colorful ruffled sandals. The music: MGMT.

2:55pm: Pink is definitely the dominant bright color here. Oooh, another dotted bag, this time a man-clutch. Could any man alive be convinced to carry a bag with no handles?

2:57pm: Oooh, an Asian male model! Wearing a pirate shirt and a cumberbund! Also, love that sparkly purple vest.

2:59pm: This gunmetal gray sequined material keeps appearing: It's a dress, it's a jacket, it's a skirt...

3:01pm: And it's ending. The pacing on the whole show felt really slow.

3:07pm: Anna jumped up and trotted out.
