The blog Girl About Town has a great post on the East Village punk band the Sic F*cks, founded by Tish and Snooky Bellamo. If the names Tish and Snooky sounds familiar, it's because they belong to the East Village punk rock sisters who founded Manic Panic, the world's leading brand of candy-colored hair dye. Before it went multinational, though, Manic Panic was a boutique on St. Mark's Place that the sisters opened with the help of a $500 loan from their mom. Changes in the East Village may have doomed CBGB's to turn into a Varvatos, but we get the feeling those same demographic shifts would have saved the Manic Panic store, had it only survived until now.
