Humberto Leon and Carol Lim's downtown boutique Opening Ceremony is trying something new this weekend. In honor of the 8.8.08 Olympic Summer Games, they will be open today straight through to Sunday night.
Special events (full schedule here) are planned for the late night shifts: Insomnia Cookies will be providing snacks from 2 to 4am Saturday morning, to be followed by a scrabble tournament hosted by SuChin Pak. From 9 to 11am on Saturday, patrons can get Olympic manicures; from 11am to 8pm, there will be Mexican food provided by Calexico and Good Humor ice cream. Perhaps most exciting? There will be a ping pong tourney hosted by jewelry designer Philip Crangi on Sunday from 1 to 4am. Pack the No Doze.
In addition to the events and the food, the store will be offering some limited-edition merchandise for the occasion. Along with the store's normal mix of clothing and accessories, shoppers can browse Nike's Air Max 1 sneaker in gold and silver and the brand's fancy NSW Collection (hoodies and sweatshirts from "a Japanese fleece manufacturer that still produces fleece fabric on vintage machines"); jewelry from Philip Crangi and Fallon; and kitchsy coin holders, towels and hats.
All in all, it sounds like our sort of sporting event.
