"Opening Summer 2008" is the new "I'll call you sometime." So we haven't been holding our breath for Hugo Boss to open in MePa and Soho. New renderings of the MePa store (pictured above), at 401 West 14th Street next to Apple and Moschino, show "a curved dome lattice with embedded LED lighting juxtaposed with original brickwork, concrete, flooring and 20th century graffiti art." But rendering is not yet reality: The hot days of summer have caused the construction workers to occasionally prop open the doors and peeking in, we've seen that they've got the birchwood lattice in place, but that's about it despite new windows announcing a September opening.
Meanwhile in Soho, another new Hugo store at 555 Broadway is similarly sluggish, even with its new opening date of September 25. Not that we're particularly excited to shop fall suits, but it's always interesting to see an empty space fitted with an innovative interior. Both shops should open for frenzied fall shopping, just not in time for Indian summer sales.
