It's the most magical time of the year! Today's the opening day at the Barneys Warehouse Sale, kicking off at 8 AM sharp at the Barneys Co-op in Chelsea. Racked is on the scene all morning to cover the madness: The line, the clothes, the throwing of elbows. Stay tuned.
7:00am: From our correspondent on the scene: "The line is pitiful. Like 20 people, and half dudes."
7:11am: "A hefty security force (like 15 people) is getting briefed out back on 18th Street."
7:16am: "OK, the line has tripled. It's going to clear the scaffolding (about three buildings down) at any minute."
7:21am: "I spy: Japanese trendspotters smoking, aspiring Rachel Zoes with sunglasses and Balenciaga bags of epic size, and only about 10 people (of maybe 110 in line now) who are over 35 years old."
7:24am: "Husbands in suits and SUVs dropping off well-coiffed wives!"
7:30am: "Security guards from neighboring buildings are getting rude and verbally aggressive as they try to keep doorways clear. It's too early for that."
7:32am: "Six people ahead of me all playing on their iPhones. I even spot mobile Scrabble on one. Line now approaching 3/4 of the block."
7:47am: "Channel 5 audio dude is walking the line, looking for someone suitable to interview. People are finishing their coffees and getting more animated."
7:50am: "Spotted: Girl wearing Rogan for Target!!! This always happens. Sample sales are officially THE place for showing off your diffusion line wardrobe."
8:01am: Almost time!!! Line has officially hit 7th Ave. It is now the length of the block between 7th and 8th. And I am killer hungry. We're moving!!!"
8:02am: "I'm in! More soon."
