Storecasting: Dumbo's Mac Attack

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Coming soon to the bedroom community of Dumbo: a Mickey’s Hookup authorized Mac dealer and repair center. Already with two Williamsburg locations, Mikey’s will be the first tech shop in Dumbo, infiltrating the concentration of modern furniture stores. In fact, it will land directly across the street from the West Elm and Bo Concept on Front Street, on a side which currently has no retail.

In this ideal location at the intersection of Front Street and Washington Street, Mikey’s is sure to be quite busy with more than just the yuppie-hip condo owners of the area; it sits at a popular corner for film and photo shoots near a giant building of artist studios.

When they aren't replacing cables caught in cobblestone, it sounds like the Mikey's crew will be pretty relaxed. Dumbo NYC chatted with the Mikey's owner and he revealed some fun stuff in store: "We'll have a regulation-size Olympic ping pong table for passing the time. I'm a huge fan of table tennis and I'm always looking for a good challenge."

Even though the interior work has just begun, Mikey's hopes to be open in the beginning of September and is already accepting applications (hint to current Mac geniuses: you wouldn't have to deal with iPhone lines ever again).
