Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
The Strand's FiDi Annex closes August 31, so every book in the store is on sale. What was a 20% discount last week has elevated to 50%, which sounds exciting until you realize that all the new fiction and non-fiction has disappeared from the store, leaving books that haven't seen the light of day since the Giuliani era. We stopped by last night and discovered the following creaky titles had surfaced just in time for a markdown: Fine, I'll Go Online! The Hollywood Publicist's Guide to Successful Internet Dating by Leslie Oren; Lost In Austen: Create Your Own Jane Austen Adventure by Emma Campbell Webster; Sex, Lies and Politics by noted political commenter Larry Flynt; The Milk Mustache Book: A Behind-the-Scenes Look At America's Favorite Advertising Campaign by Jay Schulberg; and, lastly, Of Grunge and Government: Let's Fix This Broken Democracy by Krist Novoselic, otherwise known as Nirvana's bassist.
