ATM Issues: WaMu's Service With A Smile

New, 6 comments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

There's something amiss with one of the ATMs at the Washington Mutual on the corner of Canal and Baxter Streets in Chinatown. A Racked correspondent sends the above images of a strange smiley face receipt one of the (we assume malfunctioning) machines spits out when you try to withdraw cash. As the horror that is their phone system prevented us from actually speaking with a customer service rep, we're unable to tell you if this is an isolated incident, or if the smiley faces are being dispensed at multiple broken WaMu ATMs around town. However, we can attest to their creepiness. Any more info on the subject is welcomed in the comments.
