Comme des Garcons' upcoming H&M collection is just the newest jewel in Rei Kawakubo's collab crown. Past partners of Comme read like a plan for world fashion domination: first Rei goes after street artists like Kaws, then takes over preppy sporting brands like Lacoste and Fred Perry, and now the time is ripe to conquer the world (aka Louis Vuitton and H&M).
After splashing the iconic leather wallets with artwork by street artist-turned-cult brand owner Kaws late last year, Comme des Garcons has turned up the heat considerably. Now not only can you pop the collar of a Comme des Garcons x Fred Perry polo and grease yourself into a Comme des Garcons x Speedo design, but Rei keeps on truckin' with labels like Lacoste and now Brooks Brothers.
From the Lacoste Fall '08 Collection with Comme, there are 3/4-sleeve polos to facilitate the popping of collars in all seasons. The Brooks Brothers' collaboration is classier, with a blazer and button-downs retailored for a Japanese slimness and attention to detail.
As usual, these items are not available at easily accessible stores (even Rei's pieces for Louis Vuitton must be ordered from a special-edition store), so we will continue to anxiously await the H&M debut in November; for it is then that Kawakubo will reign supreme from head-to-toe.
