Today marks the opening of sex toy store Babeland's first Brooklyn outpost. There's been a lot of talk about how Slopers will receive the shop—though co-owner and neighborhood resident Claire Cavanah says that the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, various press outlets have tracked down a few surly naysayers who worry about the effect a store full of vibes will have on their children (one mommy's statement to the Daily News: 'I don't think it's a good idea. There are so many kids in the neighborhood'). Regardless of the hand wringing of a few uptight sorts, the neighborhood seems just the place for a sex-positive feminist-run operation like Babeland, and we predict that the store's lubes, vibrators, dildos, condoms and educational classes will be a big hit. For more on Babeland Park Slope, click over to Gothamist's interview with Cavanah or through to the Daily News' article on the store.
