"The Strand Bookstore has been double-crossed by NYC & Co. The city's promotional agency told owner Fred Bass it would shoot designer Cynthia Rowley, a Strand junkie, at his literary mecca for a 'Just Ask the Locals' ad. Inexplicably, the finished ad shows Rowley inside the store, but hypes Midtown's Kinokuniya Books instead. 'We were baffled and amazed,' Bass fumed in a letter. Rowley's rep says she was 'upset, too.' But NYC's Kelly Ann Curtain called the beef an 'overreaction' because the Strand has been plugged in its other promos." [NY Post]
