In The Window: Condiment is King at Paul Smith

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Ketchup and mustard are usually the enemies of natty dressers everywhere—one false splatter and that made-to-measure button-down is toast. But at the Paul Smith store at 142 Greene Street in Soho, red and yellow bottles of the bright toppings seem right at home with the British designer's colorful clothing. One window even shows a blazer-wearing mannequin, hot dog in hand. Is Smith trying to convince us that fitted suits are the new BBQ dress code?
