Above, scenes from the opening festivities at Ikea Red Hook, performed just before the hour of 9 a.m. this fine morning. In short order, we had a solid dose of patriotism: the Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, and—courtesy of a Swedish folk singer—the Swedish National Anthem, which seems to go by the monicker Du gamla, Du fria (N.B. lyrics pretty much sound like that)—and, to keep this run-on sentence going, the ceremonial log-cutting. Plus a lot of dull speeches, saved only by His Highness Markowitz, who at least knows how to give good stump. And then, suddenly, we were inside.
