Ikea, the retail chain that will certainly change the face of sleepy Red Hook, is opening tomorrow morning. As fans camp out underneath the store in wait, and locals worry for the future of their neighborhood, The Life Vicarious scribe Adam Robb, who's fifth in line, is blogging for Racked from the scene.

9:19pm: There was a plan after all in Ikea starving the campers for two days. Just now, Marty Markowitz's well-oiled Brooklyn button-palming machine passed through the parking lot doling out shopping carts of sandwiches. The man was received with the wild enthusiasm of a Swedish pop star. Now he's gone taking with him a standing ovation captured on NY1 and Channel 4. Ikea's best p.r. move yet and they look like they know it.
