"Ikea won't just be attracting customers to Red Hook - rivals are likely coming, too. Other big-box retailers are expected to follow the furniture giant into the quickly transforming Brooklyn neighborhood. Megastore chains have been scouting sites, real estate sources said, giving the Brooklyn waterfront their consideration because of the massive 346,000-square-foot store opening Wednesday at 1 Beard St." Brokers say that Wal-Mart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Staples, Walgreens and Trader Joe's have also sniffed around the area.
