Now (Almost) Open: Sander Draws the Blinds

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Jil Sander is shy. The store's staff closed the blinds on us today when we tried to grab a photo of the interior of their new Howard Street store, located within a high-heel's throw of Opening Ceremony. No matter—the glassy front doors afforded a full-on glimpse of the minimalist interior stocked with bot-like mannequins dressed in the label's finest neutral-toned attire. The scene there this afternoon seemed calm but busy, as workers bustled around putting the finishing touches on the place in lieu of a planned full reveal at tonight's Raf Simons-hosted opening party. You can be sure that all ladders and construction equipment will be removed from the scene before that begins.
