Storecasting: Diesel Walls Off Fifth Avenue

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Enjoy it while it lasts, because like Topshop before, the plywood wall around the construction of the new Diesel flagship at 685 Fifth Avenue and 54th Street will soon be plastered with glitzier scenes of be-denimed models assuming hipper-than-thou poses. A peek behind the iron curtain revealed a continued presence of old ad windows from the store's former life as the Gucci flagship, now moved across the street. With 19,555 square feet ripe for Diesel's debut in time for Christmas, this corner will be seeing quite a bit of action through the summer.
