Storecasting: L'Uomo Hits a Hiatus

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Well, it's official: L'Uomo at 363 Bleecker is closed, with even the sign cut out of the awning. Despite the store's 25+ years at the spot (before the SNL short Lazy Sunday brought nearby Magnolia Bakery renewed fame!), L'Uomo lost its lease to make way for the block's third Ralph Lauren. Still no sign of RL progress, but the fact that they're paying $50,000 more per month than L'Uomo did should get them moving real soon.

Meanwhile, L'Uomo's relocation one block up Perry Street to 271 West 4th Street is looking quiet. Formerly the Avalon Salon & Day Spa, which shuffled itself over to Christopher Street last summer, the new space shares a block with other recent newsmakers: Osteria del Sole, seized for back taxes and Les Deux Gamins, shuttered by the DOH. Looks like L'Uomo will be the only thing opening anytime soon in these parts.
