Guess what, young creatives! Some companies are beginning to realize that you don't live in Soho anymore, despite what the Frommer's guidebook tells them. This summer, Vespa will open new exclusive dealerships in both Greenpoint and Jersey City to supplement their existing showrooms in Fort Greene and Soho. The new Greenpoint Vespa spot at 33 Nassau Avenue and Dobbin St will be 5,000 square feet of Quadrophenia ecstasy, not to mention that it'll be underneath the new Triple Five Soul headquarters.
Hopping over the Hudson to Jersey City, both Vespa and Piaggio will be housed in a newly converted garage at 247 Tenth Street nearby the Newport Centre Mall. This location is only 5 minutes from the entrance to the Holland Tunnel, and therefore absolutely ideal since larger-size scooters are permitted both in the tunnels and over the bridges.
Zoom out from New York and you'll see that Vespa has already begun their summer of plenty with a clever guerrilla ad campaign in Canada, and more freshly-opened showrooms in godforsaken places like Northwest Ohio. Sadly, all this increased demand for fuel efficiency comes too late for the moped-friendly streets of Chicago, whose exclusive Vespa store went down amid debt-fueled flames in late 2006. Now that the tides have turned and Hummers are on the out, we're sure that summer '08 will be less gassy.
