Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
It's time again for Shopping The Personals, a recurring Racked feature wherein we comb through the retail-based Missed Connections listings on Craigslist.
If you can stand the lines, the pushing and shoving, the bare shelves and the general insanity of the Trader Joe's store in Union Square, then we salute you. If you can do all that, and pick someone up? Even more impressive:
1) Union Square: "Trader Joe's Seafood Section. This afternoon we struck up a brief conversation about types of fish. You were not sure how fishy a certain fish was. You were pretty. I think you had an Aussie accent. I was not sure. I know the chances of you reading this are slim but I thought why not. Maybe we could connect and swap recipes. haha" [Listing]
2) Union Square: "Hey. I work at Trader Joe's and you came to my register last night. I was right next to the front of the line. We had a good chat and I'm pretty sure we were flirting...? I'm relatively clueless when it comes to these things. In any case, tell me what we were talking about (or just send a picture) and maybe we could get coffee (or hard liquor...we'll play it by ear)."
