New Trend: Tattoo Artists As Retail Sideshow

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

This is an interesting development: tattoo artists are now guesting at retail events. First, we found out that denim shop Earnest Sewn will be hosting tattoo artist Scott Campbell on Mother's Day. (Campbell will offer MePa shoppers $100 mom tattoos.) And now, a release has just landed in the Racked Inbox announcing that "tattoo artist to the stars" Friday Jones will be appearing at Xac Anthony Salon & Spa in Chelsea on May 15th. You have to RSVP for a night of "cocktails, consultations and live model portfolio presentations of Friday Jones' Work." Apparently, Friday will be a regular guest at the salon, as she writes on her MySpace blog that her partnership with Xac, a "grand experiment combining couture tattoo with an elegant spa experience," began this month. Go in for a blow out, leave with a sleeve.
