Shopping The Personals: We Talked About Bike Shoes at Paragon

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's time again for Shopping The Personals, a recurring Racked feature wherein we comb through the retail-based Missed Connections listings on Craigslist.

Gyms have always been hotbeds of pick-up behavior, but they're not the only place to eye fit young things. Take the Paragon Sports store near Union Square, for example. People seem to be shopping there for much more than biking gear and tennis rackets:

1): "Tall Asian girl at Ski Section of Paragon Sports. I thought you were very beautiful and wanted to talk to you, but I am a shy tall Asian male with an athletic built." [Listing]

2): "You had brown hair, beautiful brown eyes and an intoxicating smile and an owl belt buckle (I think). We talked about bike shoes, you left and returned from Sid's which really made my day. I was about to leave for lunch when we started talking but I decided you were better than overpriced food from the awful deli. I was right. I should have asked for your phone number, I'll ask when you come back for cleats." [Listing]
