Secrecy Swirls Around Kidrobot Pop-Up

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The folks at Kidrobot are serious about keeping their pop-up "pirate" store under wraps. When we dropped by 70 Greene Street earlier today, this image of the papered-up windows was all we could grab—a security guard stationed inside came out to dissuade us from poking around further. The interior of the storefront, from what we could see, is in a state of disarray. There wasn't a Dunny to be seen, but we did spot an interesting, cracked-glass-looking room divider-type element on the right side of the shop before having the door slammed in our face.

Anyway, the pop-up is slated to open this Friday at 11am, and will be around through March 9th. The place is sure to be packed as soon as its unveiled, as they will be offering up to 50% off limited-edition toys and merchandise. After all this sample-sale, pop-up madness, staffers plan to relocate the permanent Kidrobot store from 126 Prince Street to a larger space at 118 Prince.
