Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
It's time again for Shopping The Personals, a Racked feature wherein we comb through the retail-based Missed Connections listings on Craigslist.
If you're going to try to pick someone up at a grocery store, Whole Foods is probably your best bet. The place has a wiff of fancy about it that's missing from most Gristedes, C Towns, Mets and Key Foods. Shopping at those other supermarkets feels like a mundane chore, but a trip to Whole Foods, well, that's an experience.
1) Bowery: "I was in my own world doing homework and you were eating. You wore a pink top and a black skirt. You had a map of NYC in your pocket. I was at the table near the window. You said goodbye as I left and I was crazy for leaving. Email me." [Listing]
2) Chelsea: "You were in Whole Foods on 24th St. this morning around 11 AM. Caught your eye and then you checked out before I had a chance to introduce myself. You were in a grey and silver reflective fireman-looking jacket. I was wearing a black down vest. Hit me up if you discover this post." [Listing]
3) Bowery: "You were wearing a yellow t-shirt, sitting with two friends, was sitting across from you, made few eye contact, i would have came up to u if u were alone, with a group of ppl its harder to approach someone. this is a long shot but might as well give it a try." [Listing]
