RackedWire: Village Gets Insomnia, BK Jail Shop Proposal Back

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

GREENWICH VILLAGE—A sweets enterprise intriguingly named "Insomnia Cookies" is headed for 8th Street between MacDougal and Sixth Ave. According to Crain's, the company has built its business on a delivery service that caters to (stoned?) college students; this will be the first brick-and-mortar retail location. The tiny 300-square-foot store will serve freshly-baked cookies and milk, natch. [Crain's]

COBBLE HILL—The plan to turn the first floor of the jail at Atlantic Ave and Smith Street into retail has been resurrected. The city has saucily included a Trader Joe's in the renderings, even though everyone knows that the TJ's is going in a block from there. Also, the commissioners want to double the size of the house of detention. What a bunch of crazy dreamers. [Curbed]
