This Just In: Karen Walker's Swept Den

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Quirky Kiwi designer Karen Walker has been making quite a name for herself here in the States recently. So it makes sense that Den, the au courant East Village clothing boutique, has selected Walker as their latest featured designer. The 350-square foot concept store showcases a single designer every 6-8 weeks, and Walker's pieces debuted today. Not ones to wait around, Racked ran over to 11th Street to take in the New Zealander's designs.

A rack at Den heavy with Karen Walker blazers and shorts

The collection is full of cute springtime jackets and 100% bamboo-knit tanks to wear under them. We really like the muted color scheme complemented with bolder red, cerulean and deep brown hues. The azul double-breasted blazer (above, at left) and peep frill shorts (mid-rack) are two faves.

Vests, pleated khakis

All in all, the jackets, shorts, blouses, and knitwear are subtle yet unique. The collection is a little quieter than what the designer is known for, but it's still fresh and flirty. The store's springtime decor of flower petals, plants, grass, and white walls enhanced Walker's designs. The only downer here is the pricing. Pieces range from $150-650, with most items on the high end. The wreath dress in the front window is $635 and the aforementioned shorts will set you back $469. Start saving fast: Walker's rotation at Den ends in eight weeks.
