Yesterday, we dangled a free hat and scarf from Brooklyn Industries in front of your collective noses. To win the prize, contestants had to come up with a name for a new Brooklyn micro neighborhood. The responses were...interesting. The winner: OMGWTFBBQE, or "Ostensibly Modest Grid of Wonderfully Tasty Fruits Beside the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. It encompasses the 6 blocks covered by Cranberry, Orange, and Pineapple Streets in Brooklyn Heights." A sampling of other names submitted: Dumb-O (A new area where people who never thought Brooklyn would actually become a destination can now live. Three banks and a Duane Reade occupy the four corners of its only intersection- just like Manhattan.); BriCon Beach (conveniently located around the intersection of Brighton Beach Ave and Coney Island Ave. There may be Russians.); and Down Under the Dirty Expressway (anything near 4th avenue in the park slope-ish nabe...).
