Shopping the Personals: The Yuletide Edition

New, 1 comment

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's time again for Shopping The Personals, a recurring Racked feature wherein we comb through the retail-based Missed Connections listings on Craigslist.

All over the city, people are heading out to pick up holiday presents and instead picking up each other. At least, that's the impression you get if you spend too much time on Craigslist. Herewith, our favorite Christmas (and Hannukah!) shopping romances:

1.) Lulu's Toys in Park Slope: "You work at the toy store and you are CUTE. I wish I had more little cousins so I would have an excuse to shop in your store more often." [Listing]

2.) Macy's giftwrap line: "Yesterday morning. We smiled in hopeless frustration as the waiting lasted forever. You--very cute smile, very hot hot body. Me-black jacket, waiting behind you." [Listing]

3.) The Strand and the Virgin Megastore: "i caught a glimpse of you in the virgin megastore in union square and thought you were unbelievably cute. Then we left and a little while later I went into the strand and saw you there too. I couldn't look away and you caught me a few times. you were wearing a hat, but you took it off in the virgin to reveal cute wavy brown hair. I think you were wearing a beige jacket with a gray hoodie and yellowish scarf. I was the guy with brown hair, scruff, and glasses. let's hang out sometime." [Listing]
